The clutch slave cylinder uses the hydraulic fluid from the master cylinder to disengage your clutch. Only when your clutch is disengaged is it safe to change your gears. The most common signs of a bad slave cylinder are low fluid levels, loose pedal feel and difficulty changing gears. ECS recommends you change your slave cylinder any time you service your clutch
