The mass air flow sensor (MAF) measures the mass of air ingested by the engine. The vehicle computer uses this information with inputs from other sensors to calculate the correct amount of fuel needed for efficient combustion. Failed or contaminated MAF sensors cause numerous performance problems, including poor idle quality or stalling, and check engine light illumination with stored trouble codes.
