Custom made by MTC (OE Supplier to VW) this oil pan is half aluminum & half steel. This is a recommended repair for all cars with damaged oil pans. Of course it can be used to replace a perfectly good oil pan also. The steel lower pan can take more abuse than the aluminum one. The aluminum oil pan shatters once it's been hit. The steel has the ability to absorb more impact than the aluminum version.
