The IHI IS series turbos have been known to have restricted oil flow under sporty driving which can cause premature failure of the bearings resulting in broken turbine shafts. With a broken turbine shaft and running engine, the oil pump will push engine oil into the exhaust system. The lack of engine oil can then cause catastrophic engine failure. HPA has spent 4 years of research and development to completely rethink the bearing housing design. All components are completely upgraded to ensure lubrication for both reliability and peace-of-mind.
Each CHRA is built to meet or exceed the OEM quality specifications, with the individual components of the rotating group balanced on a Schenk Balancer. Once fully assembled, each complete CHRA assembly is balanced with a VSR Balancer. The VSR Balancer is used and approved by leading turbo manufacturers Borg Warner, Garrett Honeywell, and IHI, ensuring a perfect assembly.
The HPA IS38 Hybrid features a custom compressor and turbine wheel design capable of holding up to 450 HP with a flat torque curve from 3800 RPM to redline! Our turbo is a natural upgrade to IS38, IS20, and even IS12 equipped cars where the OEM units lose breath mid-way in the RPM range.
