To harness your power increases, and transfer that power to the road or track where you need it, Volkswagen Racing Uprated Engine Mounts will give a much more solid drive, and crucially give additional durability to your car. Three replacement VWR Uprated Engine Mounts are available for all 2.0 turbo TSI and FSI Golf 5/6, Scirocco and other A5-platform cars.

VWR?s RacingLine Engine, Gearbox and Lower Subframe Mounts are CNC-machined, fully engineered replacement units, designed to decrease engine and transmission movement to ensure clean transfer of power to the road. By tightening up movement in the drivetrain, you will instantly feel the difference the first time you pull away after fitment. All our mounts are designed and engineering in the UK.

DEVELOPMENT

We developed our initial set of engine mounts for our first ever Golf 5 racing car in 2005, and after numerous updates and revisions in that first year, we?ve been delighted with the result ever since. We developed the VWR Uprated Engine Mounts after experiencing on-track failures from almost every aftermarket brand of ?uprated? mounts ? in some cases (to our amazement) within just a few laps of hard use. Many of these were clearly cheaply-made, far-eastern products with little engineering integrity.

So this is an opportunity to have our true race parts on your road car with minimal compromise.

We have to admit, the VWR Uprated Engine Mounts are not one of the most exciting or visual modifications that you can make to your car. But for those in the know, they are truly one of the most worthwhile upgrades for anyone who appreciates the driving dynamics of their car. Almost everyone who tries these mounts on a VWG A5-platform Golf or Scirocco wants them.

WHAT?S WRONG WITH FACTORY ENGINE MOUNTS?

The simple answer is ?nothing? ? for a standard car, driven in regular fashion, on the road, that is. However, ask more from your car through power increases or hard driving, and the factory mounts quickly fall short.

The whole engine and gearbox (the drivetrain) is located in just three places. The two upper mounts ? one at the end of the engine, another at the end of the gearbox ? both support the entire weight of the engine/gearbox, plus a third Lower Subframe Mount underneath the engine to prevent too much fore-aft movement (often called the pendulum mount).

The standard car uses very compliant rubber in these mounts to give a soft take-up of power and isolate the cabin from drivetrain noise. For a daily-driven standard car, these bushings do a great job of keeping cabin vibration to a minimum, and cushion the effect of bad gear changes or clumsy throttle applications from ?normal? drivers.

But when you ask more of these mounts, whether through higher power or harder driving, the movement in the mounts becomes very noticeable. This gives a slightly loose feeling to the drivetrain when coming on and off-throttle, and an increased chance of wheel-hop under hard acceleration as the whole engine and ?box assembly judders ? sometimes violently, particularly with wheelspin.

If your car produces high power, or has covered quite a few miles, or is driven hard, then the softness of these three standard rubber mounts allows more and more movement as you come on and off the power. With worn mounts, we have even seen failures of the exhaust manifold and driveshafts as the whole drivetrain shifts and twists around more and more under load.

WHAT DIFFERENCE DO THE VWR UPRATED MOUNTS MAKE?

The VWR Uprated Engine Mounts stiffen the whole location of the drivetrain greatly to give a much tighter, sharper feeling to your car. This means no more jerky behaviour on and off the throttle or when you change gear, and all-but eliminates ?wheel hop? off the line. Of course, a bit more noise from the drivetrain comes into the cabin, but most keen drivers love the sense that they are more ?connected? to their car, and the gentle ?growl? that the mounts convey.

The original mounts can allow up to 12? of fore/aft movement under extreme loads. The VWR Uprated Engine Mounts reduce this to just 3? of movement.

After much development, we came up with our unique ?Dual Durometer? design ? using two different polymers of different durometer (hardness) ratings which allows some movement within the mounts, and filters much of the drivetrain?s vibration, yet very significantly reduces the movement within each mount.

Our ?Dual Durometer? development underwent numerous updates and revisions before perfecting a balance between comfort and control. The Lower Subframe Mount offers a significant reduction in unwanted movement resulting from throttle applications, between gear changes and standing-start acceleration. The unpleasant feeling of ?Wheel Hop judder is greatly minimized with this modification alone.

Some people make the mistake of labelling extremely harsh and noisy engine mounts as being suitable for road use, but in doing so they significantly sacrifice the driving experience without increasing performance. Equally, some aftermarket ?push in? bushes crudely fill the voids in the original factory mounts which are really only suitable for standard cars and regular road use. The VWR units are completely redesigned replacement mount assemblies, engineered from scratch to deliver the strength and control that you require.

For most road cars, we?d recommend fitting the VWR Lower Subframe Mount on its own, leaving the two upper mounts standard. This makes a huge difference to how the car drives, and has a pretty minimal difference to the cabin refinement. The VWR Lower Subframe Mount on its own is one of our most popular upgrades for the VAG A5-platform Golfs, Sciroccos, A3, S3, Leon and Octavia, and for good reason.

For more heavily modified, track and motorsport cars, all three mounts should be upgraded.

The VWR Lower Subframe Mount mount incorporates a cutout to provide clearance on 4Motion cars around the anti-roll bar. This cutout also allows fitment of an uprated anti-roll bar (standard or aftermarket) with proper clearance.
