Turbocharged horsepower requires serious exhaust. Maximum power starts with a big downpipe and ends with an equally free flowing exhaust system. Designed to bolt to our 3" TSI downpipes, our 2.5" & 3" cat-backs pick up where the downpipe leaves off. The result is honest performance that sounds and looks as great as it feels.
Our 2.5" and 3" cat-backs begin where our 3" downpipe ends. A CNC machined flange attaches to the final downpipe flange with locking hardware and a double layer graphite gasket. After the flange a set of hangers slide into the factory hanger bushings and supports the piping as it bends into a Magnaflow muffler. After the muffler a short bend ends at another CNC machined flange. This flange connection is adjustable allowing precise fitment of the tips. Piping leaves the flanges and routes neatly under the rear suspension. A precisely fabricated merge evenly divides our piping without disrupting flow. Hung neatly in the factory exhaust cutouts, a pair of high polished stainless steel tips complete the system.
During our initial design work we discovered quickly that the Mk6 rear valance requires a unique pair of exhaust tips. The contours of the rear valance easily overpower the tips. In order for a set of tips to stand out they must be large. We experimented with 4" tips in multiple styles but we were never satisfied with the fitment. Honestly, they looked ridiculous. We decided to blend in instead of stand out, starting from scratch with 3.5" diameter material. 3.5" is powerful enough to be noticed but subtle enough to let the contours of the rear valance take over. Our final exhaust tip design truly compliments the rear valance of the Mk6 GTI.
Installation of our cat-back system is simple, adjustable, and reliable. A permanent flange allows the system to bolt to our 3" downpipe. Precise design and fabrication routes piping clear of heatshields. Adjustable flanges allow further adjustment if necessary, sealed by double layer graphite gaskets and locking hardware. A pair of collars on each rear hanger lock the tips in place.
The sound is sporty and refined - not too loud and not a hint of rasp. Because sound varies based on downpipe configuration we cannot accurately describe the resulting sound with words alone. Extensive sound clips will be added to this webpage shortly. These sound clips will present the 2.5" and 3" systems in a variety of turbo-back configurations.

Our Mk6 TSI 2.5" & 3" cat-back systems are specifically designed:
- to bolt-up to our TSI 3" downpipe
- as the rear portion of our Mk6 TSI 2.5" & 3" turbo-backs
- to be custom fit to a 3" TSI downpipe
- to be used on heavily modified vehicles
Our Mk6 TSI 2.5" & 3" cat-back systems are NOT designed:
- to connect to a stock TSI downpipe
- to connect to a stock 2.5L downpipe
- to fit any vehicle other than a Mk6 FWD chassis
Fitment to our TSI 3" downpipes or as part of our turbo-back systems is as easy as we describe. Fitment to a 3" downpipe not built by 42 requires welding of a 3" flange to the existing 3" downpipe at the correct location, angle, and rotation. Successful fitment of our flanged 2.5" or 3" cat-back in custom applications is the responsibility of the owner. Fitment of our 2.5" or 3" cat-back to any stock downpipe or downpipe under 2.5" or 3" in diameter respectively is not recommended by 42 and cannot be supported. There are reasons why we make specific recommendations.
If you're interested in a full turbo-back exhaust, we offer systems for the Mk6 TSI which combine these cat-backs with our 3" downpipes. Check them out! Mk6 GTI TSI 3" Turbo-back Systems

Power gains cannot be definitively stated for this system. Every single installation is different. Power gains related to this system depend entirely on what's in front of it. TSI engines with complimenting mods and a 3" downpipe will see typical 3" turbo-back gains. An TSI with a GT30 turbo and a 3" downpipe is going to see maximum power at whatever boost level their motor can support.
Last but not least, if you have any questions about our 3" cat-back systems or any of our exhaust systems don't hesitate to contact us. We're available by phone, fax and email to answer any question you may have.
