INTO SURGERY

As with any car that has a performance aspect of it, human nature (at least of the gear-head species) is to take that German engineered car and immediately begin to add tasteful modifications and add personality, performance and character. The UroTuning MK8 Golf R was no exception for this process and was taken to Crown Motorsports Division for some much awaited attention.
The goal of Phase I on the MK8 Golf R would consist of some typical 'First Mods' to a new vehicle such as Suspension, Wheels and Performance Exhaust. Below, we have outline our choices of upgrades for these elements and go into a little bit of their benefits.

MK8 SUSPENSION UPGRADE

As part of the upgrades in the Phase I of the MK8 Golf R, we wanted to retain the Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) System as it reacted with the different drive modes of the vehicle such as Sport and Normal modes. With this, it was found that the best option would be an adjustable spring kit that could be a direct replacement for the factory springs. Your vehicle does not only get a more dynamic look with the ST height adjustable spring kit, but also the steering behavior and response of the standard dampers becomes more agile. All driver assistance systems and comfort features of an adaptive series suspension remain with the ST Suspension vehicle specific developed spring set up!

NO STOCKS WITH LOWERED SUSPENSION

One cardinal rule of lowering a car is getting new wheels at the same time to optimize the style points applied at the vehicle when it touches the ground again. For the most style points and an OEM Plus look with a bit of motorsports notes, the MK8 Golf R is sporting a set of 19x8.5 ET45 Rotiform SGN's.
The SGN's paired with some new sticky rubber optimizes the vehicles handling while still looking sharp. The overall design takes classic elements including a center lug-nut cover/cap giving a nod to center-lock wheels. This more modern style also keeps the MK8 looking modern and in time with it's fresh release.

GETTING EXHAUSTED

The MK8 Golf R from factory has a decent factory exhaust note especially with the adjustable flow. We could not pass up on a full turbo-back system from our friends at Milltek. That being said, it was time to rip the OEM system out for a more performance sounding and performing system in preparation for any future tuning. The pairing included a Milltek Large Bore Downpipe and Hi-Flow Sport Cat along with the Resonated Cat Back Muffler from Milltek. The system also retains the valved open/close feature for a more subtle sound when requested. Not only does the system look great, but sounds even better!
