You're proud of your BMW. It's beautiful and looks brand new. It's also extremely comfortable and reliable.

But are you doing everything you can to make sure it's running at its best too? Is there something you could do to increase the lifespan?

Your car may be giving you warning signs that it needs replacement parts. Replacing old parts is one of the only ways to ensure your BMW has a long life on the road.

Here are seven signs that your BMW may need replacement parts that you should always be on the lookout for.

1. It Won't Start

The most obvious sign that your BMW needs a replacement part is if it simply won't start. This could indicate any number of issues, but the main ones are the actuator and the battery.

The actuator is responsible for charging your car's battery as you drive. This means that if your actuator is failing, your battery won't be able to last much longer either.

However, even if the actuator isn't having a problem, the battery can still fail for a wide variety of reasons. The most popular cause for battery failure is leaving your lights on for a while when parked.

Either way, if your BMW isn't getting enough power to start, you probably need a part replaced.

2. Clicking Noises While Braking

This one is important to listen for in older BMWs. If you hear a clicking noise while you're braking at red lights or stop signs, you should take your car to get serviced as soon as possible.

This could be a sign that your brakes need a part(s) replaced. This may be brake fluid, or it may be the brake pads. In some cases, you may need your whole braking system replaced.

Either way, the importance of getting this resolved quickly cannot be overstated. Needless to say, it is never a good idea to drive without functioning brakes.

3. Strange Noises While Driving

On the subject of noises that your BMW shouldn't be making, you should always pay attention to how your car behaves. Even in newer cars, parts can be faulty. One of the biggest tell-tale signs that a part needs replacing is hearing odd noises.

Cars really shouldn't be squeaking or whining as they're being driven. This could be a sign that parts are being strained.

Such noises can be caused by loose belts or failing spark plugs. A scraping noise usually means something has fallen from underneath your car and is now dragging on the ground.

Trust your instincts. If something doesn't feel or sound right, don't wait to get your car looked at.

4. AC Failing

You know better than anyone how your BMW was functioning when you initially bought it. You were probably paying close attention to how well the AC was working when you brought it home too. This means you should know when it's not working as well as it used to either.

Maybe your AC stops blowing cold air. Perhaps it's not blowing as hard as it used to. Maybe it only works for so long before the AC unit freezes over.

If any of these issues are the case, your BMW's AC unit might need to have a part or two replaced. This is why it's important to get all of your BMW's systems checked regularly.

5. Performance Issues

This is another matter of trusting your instincts. If your BMW had a pretty fast acceleration and good fuel economy when you bought it, it should still be working the same when it's performing at its best.

If your car won't accelerate like it used to, something is probably not working as it should. There are many reasons why BMW performance parts might not work as well as they used to.

For starters, your engine's air filter might need replaced. Your BMW's alignment might be out of balance, or it may even be the power steering fluid that needs replaced.

Again, if something feels wrong, don't wait to get your car's issues diagnosed.

6. Fluid Leaks

If fluids are leaking from your BMW, this usually isn't a good sign. The only exception to this rule is water, as water drains out of your BMW's AC unit when it runs.

Any other fluids leaking from your car are a very bad sign. These fluids are there to lubricate the pieces of the car's engine to keep them from grinding against each other.

If there's no lubrication in the engine, parts will wear down, and the friction of metal against metal can cause sparks. These sparks can cause damage to your car and even cause it to catch fire or explode if one of them hits the gas line.

7. Check Engine Light is On

Finally, be on the lookout for the all-important check engine light, even if it's simply turning on for your BMW's next oil change.

The check engine light can also mean something more serious might be wrong. A part could be loose or non-functional, or maybe you forgot to put your gas cap back on the last time you filled it up.

No matter the case, it's not a good idea to ignore this warning sign. Go ahead and schedule maintenance on your car when you see this light come on.
