Did you know you can change the sound of a vehicle's engine, just by pressing a button?

That's the kind of power you have when you get performance parts for your vehicle. They can be the perfect addition to further enhance the performance of your sports car.

If you have a Mercedes-Benz, there are some great upgrades you can make to your sports car. Maybe you want to restore your older Benz to its former glory and replace its old parts. Or, you can add these upgrades to get the most out of your newer Benz too.

Here's a guide to making the right modifications with your Mercedes high performance parts.

What are Mercedes High Performance Parts?

A "performance vehicle" allows you to upgrade your overall driving experience. Unlike other standard passenger vehicles, a performance vehicle focuses on the enhanced power, agility and aesthetic.

This explains why performance parts are reserved for various racing arenas, instead of casual driving. Some high-end performance cars aren't even street legal, which means they're not available for public use until they can pass certain safety standards.

Features You Should Consider

Mercedes-Benz consistently produces some of the most powerful cars on the market with available high-performance parts. There are a variety of performance parts to choose from but they can be categorized into groups so you know what to look for.

Some performance parts are just aesthetic accessories like lights, rims, or grills. Other modifications are related to overall performance, such as the engine, exhaust system, suspension, and wheels.

Overall, here are some of the improvements you can look forward to with performance parts:

  • Increased power
  • Maneuverability and control
  • Tread stability
  • Cornering response
  • Lower resistance
  • Increased response
  • Smoother ride, sound, and feel
  • Fuel efficiency

The improvements you want to see in your Benz are all up to you. Depending on what parts you get, you'll find that some contribute more to the overall performance than others.

For the best results, you should aim to get at least two performance parts to enhance a single feature.

Engine

A new engine is one of the most significant modifications you can make to transform your Benz into a performance vehicle.

Swapping your engine out can be a daunting task, but you can see how much it enhances the car's overall performance. For instance, you can drastically improve your Benz's fuel economy with a new and improved engine.

As a rule of thumb, twin turbo engines are a performance car standard. The V-8 is the best of the twin turbo because it has all your ideal features like sound, feel, horsepower, and fuel economy.

If you're looking for a new performance engine, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R is one of the most powerful ones to date. The GT R is the second-fastest car to ever run at the annual Car and Driver Lightning Lap event and it was bested only by the Ford GT.

The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R produces 577 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. Compared to the previous Mercedes-Benz GT S, the GT R has 62 more horsepower. It's simply one of the most powerful performance engines on the market.

Sport Exhaust System

The AMG exhaust system provides manual exhaust modifications with an adjustable exhaust flap. This will give you the ability to change the entire sound of your Benz by simply pressing a button.

Some exhaust systems allow you to choose a driving mode that corresponds to a certain engine sound. The exhaust at the bumper allows more or less air to come through the piping, depending on the mode you select.

More air increases the aggressive tone of the exhaust while less air softens the tone. Increased airflow through the exhaust pipes can also boost your Benz's power.

The AMG Performance Exhaust systems are the best systems with this kind of manual engine sound control.

Suspension

Lowering the spring set is a common high-performance application and it ultimately lowers the car. While this improves performance, it also adds an aesthetic flair to your Benz.

There are many ways to tune the suspension of your car to your liking. The left and right suspensions sides are held together by a bar in the front and back of the car, but there are various tools that can adjust the suspension.

You can swap out the shock absorbers for your Benz, and the best ones for performance vehicles are Boge turbo-gas socks.

You can also install Anti-Roll bars, which are also known as "sway bars." This will help you control the car's body roll when you're turning corners. Along with the right performance wheels, stronger sway bars can improve your overall control over the car.

Wheels

Vehicles like street trucks, vans and muscle cars have basic performance tires that offer low speed traction. These aren't the types of vehicles that need high-speed driving.

On the other hand, luxury vehicles may have touring tires that offer more agility and speed traction. You'll find touring tires in a lot of luxury vehicles from later models.

High-performance tires offer the most enhanced features out of the other types. Unlike these other types, a high-performance tire aims to offer maximum control, response to speed, and a smooth ride.

An enhanced high-performance tire will have a thicker more durable tread. Premium tires also have wider footprints which enhances its response to cornering. Lower rolling drag is also another high-performance feature that ultimately decreases the resistance to tire movement and offers the driver more control.

These features distinguish high-performance tires from standard passenger tires. So if you want to improve control over your Benz, better tires are a great high-performance addition to consider.
