The drive shaft support bearing supports the drive shaft. The bearing which is in the center of the rubber support can fail with high mileage which cause whining sounds. In addition the rubber mount which houses the bearing can also fail which will cause the drive shaft to bounce around.
If your BMW makes thudding noises while accelerating and it sounds like the noise is emanating under your seat it's likely due to a failed center support. When replacing the center support bearing also order (1) 83225A1B482 Butyl cord Terostat 2460.
