Ever since the internal combustion engine was partially designed by Karl Benz, Europe has been home to some of the most iconic and remarkable automotive masterpieces to grace the market. Fast forward a hundred years and not much has changed.

With the electric vehicle race underway, Europe is once again at the forefront of vehicle design and is hoping to make Europe the world leader in this segment. Europe is home to the finest automobiles the world has ever seen. Here are some of the best European cars to own.

Best European Cars: Mercedes Benz SLS AMG

Sporting the very famous gullwing doors that featured in the Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing of the 1950s, the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG came out and immediately made a statement of intent for the rest of the manufacturers. Mercedes is one of the superior European car manufacturers.

The 583 HP 6.5 liter V8 did 0-63 mph in about 3.7 seconds which is no slouch. The exterior was big and brutal-looking, which created a stance like no other on the road. The big front grille made sure people notice what vehicle you were driving. The SLS had a remarkable top speed of 199 mph and was likened to a road-legal Nascar.

Lamborghini Aventador

Lamborghini has always been a car brand that is unpredictable and with the Aventador, it was so. The Aventador was tasked with replacing the famed Murcielago and boy, it didn't disappoint at all. Thus making it one of the top luxury European cars.

With its high-powered V12 engine, the Aventador sounded more like an aircraft taking off than a vehicle. Once seated in the driver's seat, it felt more like the inside of a spaceship than a car.

The low seat position could be tricky to get in and out of the vehicle but ensured the driving experience so close to the road was nothing that could have been felt by other cars of its generation.

Ferrari 458 Italia

The Ferrari 458 Italia was pushing 597HP under the hood in 2017. As with any other Ferrari, the design and sleek look left bystanders speechless. The 3 tip exhaust positioned in the middle of the vehicle on the rear end, was a particular favorite of many people.

The low-lying grille in the front with the signature Ferrari horse made the vehicle. The headlight design with its signature body design turned heads. The 458 is a vehicle that Enzo and the whole Ferrari world should be proud of.

Alfa Romeo Gtv

The Alfa Romeo GTV is another iconic sports vehicle from the famed Alfa Romeo stable. The vehicle was first showcased in 1994 and was available to purchase new until 2004.

You got two engine variations with a powerful 2.0 liter V6 model, as well as a twin-spark four-cylinder engine that wasn't as powerful as the V6 but still punched well above its weight. As is the case with any Alfa, they were fun to drive and exceeded all expectations.

Renault Safrane Bi-turbo

This Renault is not very common, only 806 of these European vehicles were ever made. Sporting a 3.0 Liter V6 Bi-turbo engine that produced 262HP to all four wheels through a manual transmission, the Safrane was way ahead of its time.

The Safrane will be hard to get a hold of but worth it in the end, as the value will skyrocket in coming years.

Alfa Romeo 4C

Unfortunately, Alfa Romeo left the US market in 1994 leaving many enthusiasts in its wake. In 2015, the US Alfa Romeo market was revived with the 4C, exciting many enthusiasts.

The mid-engine 1.7-liter 4-cylinder engine produced 230 HP stock standard, in a very small lightweight body. The 4C dominated other vehicles in its segment and was an immediate hit in the motoring world.

Rover Mini Cooper

The Rover Mini went on to change motoring and what a vehicle should be like forever. The famous engine and transmission combo that saved space was a revolution. The small nippy size of the vehicle made sure whoever drove one fell in love.

The Mini is a great little vehicle with many mods available, but the earliest editions can be quite pricey. If you are looking for a vehicle that is fun, easy to modify, and a head-turner, a Rover Mini is your best option.

2015 Porsche Boxster

The first editions of the Porsche Boxster were described as a poor man's Porsche. In 2015 Porsche re-imagined the Boxster and upped the anty completely.

Cheaper than the 911 but the same thrills awaited anyone who went home in the Boxster. The vehicle was also more spacious than the 911, which made it popular with Porsche enthusiasts who are tall or require baggage space.

Lotus Elise Sport 220

the 2019 Lotus Elise carried a 1.8 liter turbocharged Toyota engine so you know it will tune well and be very reliable. The power output of the vehicle is 220 HP and in such a small body, the power to weight ratio is insane.

Combining with the light build is the strong and sophisticated suspension, that helps the Elise handle tight corners, at high speeds.

Audi S2

The Audi S2 started the fast-wagon craze that you find today. The 2-2 liter five-cylinder engine that you found in the S2 is the same as the RS2 version of the same but much more affordable on the market.

The AWD system found on these Audi made sure you had the ultimate traction and became a drag racer's dream come true. The vehicle went 0-60 in 5.8 seconds, not exactly a slouch for a sedan.
