Volkswagen has just released the name of its upcoming small SIV the "Taos" along with some enticing teaser photos. Allegedly, this new model will be smaller than the Tiguan clocking in at a similar size to other small to midsize SUV's such as the Jeep compass. U.S. residents can expect the Taos to make their debut appearance on showroom floors by the end of next year with a starting price tag of around $22,000. The new Taos is expected to share similarities to its Tiguan predecessor both inside and out, but based on the teaser photos, we can see two new sets of LED lights that lead out from the headlights themselves.

Based on the Tarek and Tharu that are available overseas, the new Taos is expected to be about 10 inches shorter than the Tiguan - more similar to the Subaru Crosstrek.

This new offering from Volkswagen is expected to be powered by the inline four turbocharged 2.0 liter, but is still up for debate. More info on the vehicles powertrain is to come, but we expect it will be based on the MQB platform, with front wheel drive standard and 4Motion all wheel drive as an upgrade option.

Be on the lookout for the Volkswagen Taos official debut on October 13th!
